In Los Angeles, 47,400 jewish households
are struggling to make ends meet
Data from the June 2021 Study of Jewish LA supported by JCFLA.
What else the study showed:
Single households with children were more likely than any other type of household structure to be financially struggling
Denomination: There are no statistical differences for denomination by household financial situation. That is, struggling households are not more likely to be Orthodox.
Services: About one-quarter of struggling households required three or more services (ie health care, SNAP, employment support), compared to 8% of all households. Of those in struggling households, 38% said it was important for them that the services are Jewish services.
Slippery Slope: Close to half of the households that are currently financially struggling report that their financial situation has worsened since the pandemic began.
